Overview for 1-Day Tanzania Coffee Tour & Materuni Waterfalls Walking Tour
Overview
Your day begins with a departure to the Moshi – Kilimanjaro region, heading towards Materuni Village, home of the Chagga tribe, located just 17 km from Moshi town. Materuni is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park and offers an authentic experience of Chagga culture and day-to-day life.
Materuni Waterfalls Walking Tour
Upon arrival, you will meet your local Chagga guide, who will accompany you on a 35-45 minute scenic walk to the Materuni Waterfalls, over 80 meters high. Along the way, your guide will share stories about the Chagga culture and provide insights into the surrounding flora and fauna. Once at the falls, you can take a refreshing swim in the natural pool, so don’t forget your swimwear!
Coffee Tour
After enjoying the waterfalls, return to the village for an authentic Coffee Tour. Learn about the coffee-making process, from cultivation and drying to roasting and grinding. You’ll also get to participate in grinding the coffee beans, accompanied by traditional Chagga songs, Swahili songs, and dancing, creating a lively and immersive cultural experience. To cap off the tour, savor the freshly brewed Arabica coffee you’ve helped prepare, accompanied by a traditional Chagga meal or packed lunch.
Kikuletwa Hot Springs
In the afternoon, you’ll head to the Kikuletwa Hot Springs, a 35-minute drive from Materuni, along a bumpy road. The hot springs provide a serene setting to relax and swim in crystal-clear waters that originate from Mount Kilimanjaro. The experience is perfect for unwinding, and you’ll enjoy watching local youths dive into the pool, showcasing impressive jumps.
Note: Don’t forget your swimwear and hiking shoes for the tour.
